Teamwork in Cookie Design Packaging

Watch this video as youth learn how to work together to design and build a prototype package to keep cookies safe. 

As you watch the video, here are two things to think about:

• What strategies does the facilitator use to help the girls work together in a team? 
• How do the girls in each group interact productively (or negatively) with each other? 

Now that you’ve watched the video, reflect on what you saw.  How does this apply to your work? 

• What explicit (verbally explained) strategies did the facilitator use?
• What implicit (un-named) strategies did the facilitator use? 
• What strategies could you use in your program?
• How did the girls support or [rebel] against teamwork during this activity? 

Teamwork skills are highly valued in engineering. Becoming a good team member, like becoming a good engineer, takes practice. Think about how you can set up engineering activities so that youth can experience working in a team and develop strategies to be productive team members.
